On the road to clean transport, we probably need an interim step of non-coal based fossil fuel transport that is domestically sourced. NG fits that bill if it can be converted to a liquid analogue. As the article says, syngas made this way might also work as a way to store solar energy, either for later use for electricity or to make diesel. That really sounds like something useful.
