I thought the article said deployment is not a "maybe". This thing is going to be made and deployed. It will then be just a matter of time before the governator gets one and then you will see others get them. But aside from that, if this thing does get deployed it will add a whole new level of legitimacy to the hybrid philosophy. The hummer is the ultimate muscle vehicle. Making it a full hybrid can only help sell this concept more. Apparently, Toyota is working on a car that gets phenomenal speed. (The Volta?) With this Hummer they have the phenomenal power and strength. These are the two things Americans seem to want. If this does not cause research to make super hybrids with things like an eventual EV only mode of 200 miles, then nothing will. To my way of thinking, research is the key to getting the oil monkey off our backs. Vehicles like this will further that possibility.
You create an interesting irony. Creating a military vehicle that is a hybrid, that also has the impact of exploding demand for such vehicles. The resultant decrease in fuel consumption, makes the millitary vehicle obsolete, as we no longer have to go smack around a bunch of arabic religious fundamentalists to keep our oil tit going.
Wolfman Excellent point!!!! However, I doubt war will ever be obsolete. It meets too many needs. Try reading "Brave New World" and "1984" again. It's uncanny how prescient they both were. Just wait, when the war with Iraq (or N Korea) starts, we will be told that we were always at war with Iraq (or NK). But it's what Americans want.
