Yup. I keep forgetting that Robert is a city slicker. I like the idea of a 'smart door' when you're a little closer to the urban/wildlife interface because: Racoons. I do not know about this through direct experience because my CFO would rather not have a pet door of any kind. Our Boxer is 99.44%(*) house trained - and if she ever figured out that she didn't need one of her humans to let her out then we would only see her at supper time..... (*) I caused one of the 0.56% incidents by accidently stepping on her foot. She was mortified, but I told her it was OK because I probably would have had the same reaction if somebody 50% larger than me did the same thing.
We just bought 2 of those. We chose the aluminum frame because one of our dogs is rough on pet doors. Unlike some other doors, this one does not tend to blow open from winds.
I've got a sliding door to the rear yard. So I'll probably rig up some sort of mechanical, sliding door mechanism with dog friendly switches. Think StarTrek doors. I'll look at an automotive, electronic door mechanism rotated horizontally. I also use those clear plastic, curtains to keep the heat where it needs to be yet "the big dog" can still go in and out: I'll take the trash out when I go to COSTCO. Bob Wilson
