The New Cult: Nutty Over Hybrids This article was in today's NEWSDAY. SAN JOSE, Calif. - Hybrid car owners are a devoted lot. Maybe even crazy. Greg King, a systems engineer at Northrop Grumman in Sunnyvale, Calif., obsesses over the gasoline mileage he can eke out of his blue Honda Insight, which he bought in 2001. Driving down to Stockton from Kirkwood Mountain Resort near Lake Tahoe, he managed to get 112 miles per gallon - nearly double what the two-seater officially achieves. And he once drove to Los Angeles and back on a single tank of gas. That's just an ordinary trip to Brian Freeman, who says his 2000 Insight once got 1,098 miles on a single tank of gas. "I have one of the three highest mpg Insights in the country and hold the record for the most 1,000-mile tanks of gas," said Freeman, a former Saratoga, Calif., resident who now lives in Chicago. Freeman says he's averaged 80 miles per gallon over the 81,000-mile life of his car, spending 13.3 cents a mile on his ride. Yes, hybrid owners are passionate about their cars. ". . . some Prius owners drive "shoeless" to manipulate their accelerators more gingerly to save fuel." Oh - That must be that nutty barefoot Prius driving cult they are referring to. That type of human tends to concentrate in Northern California costal mountain communities. They tend to reek of a combination of Patchouli oil, B.O., and Herb. Any PriusChatters drive barefoot for better milage??? (or do you just forget where you left your shoes? )
You don't need to drive barefoot to manipulate the accelerator! Our accelerator is already stiff to make it easier for us to make minor adjustment. If you want to go all out, instead of pivoting on your heel, just rest your foot on the pedal and use your toes to slowly press down on it.
very impressive gas mileage for sure. a LT 80 mpg figure seems a bit unreal. ive only talked to one person who had an insight and he only averaged about 62 mpg.
i've driven barefoot. i get much better gas mileage when i do. i also feel i have better control. i don't know why it's supposed to be illegal.
<div class='quotetop'>QUOTE(V8Cobrakid\";p=\"95899)</div> Not illegal in California. I don't know about other states.
I think driving automobiles barefoot is more illegal than driving tractors barefoot. I mean, Kentuckians have to get around too! Ha ha ha ha. Sorry, die-hard Hoosier and I simply could not pass that opportunity. Hey, before you condemn me, let me make it very clear that my home town actually built a bridge across the Ohio River specifically for the people in Kentucky. You see, this way they can swim over in the shade. Haaaaaa ha ha ha ha oh my side! :bootyshake:  :bootyshake:
