How have you been using it? Is there some sort of power-strip A/C inverter that can work with it? Or is it specifically for DC-volt RV appliances and such?
I don't know what that means. Does it require those cigarette-lighter connectors (from the old days)? Does this mean you can plug in a flood light? Video projector (draws 275 watts)? PA system? (Can you see where I'm going with this?)
It's a "cigarette lighter" plug that can put out 10A. 10A * 12V = 120W. There are numerous inverters that fit in there. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_noss_2?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=inverter+car+120w&rh=i%3Aaps%2Ck%3Ainverter+car+120w
I know @bwilson4web had a 1000 watt inverter in one of his Prii. I think that is the maximum he recommends.
Here is one old thread with some details & testing, https://priuschat.com/threads/110-vac-inverter-installation.112235/
Sorry if this has been answered already - but does this 12V 120W run from the battery under the hood (used to start the vehicle), or is it running from the EV battery? If the former, does the engine compartment battery automatically get recharged from the EV battery, should it become depleted?
You can only get 12V DC from the 12 Volt Battery, the EV battery is way to high of a voltage over 200V. Think of the 12 volt system as the control for the high voltage system. It runs all the traditional things as a normal car except the starter. The high voltage battery starts the car.
The 12V battery runs the 12V system including most accessories, power plugs in the car, lights, etc. It is also necessary to start the car because it is used to start the computers. With a dead 12V battery the car won't start. The high voltage (traction) battery runs the heat pump, the two drive motor/generators AND it is used to charge the 12V system. When the car is in operating mode ("READY" mode), power from the HV battery is used to run a power supply that can supply up to (we think) 100A to charge the 12V battery. The car has no "starter", just the two drive/traction motor/generators, one of which (MG1) is used to start the ICE if necessary.
It does while you are in READY. I forget if it was the PIP or the Prime where it charged while the HV Battery was charging, as well.
