I've been expecting this, but now I have hard evidence. I went to a boating store yesterday and discovered that stove alcohol (which is ethanol) is now $18/gal. Last year it was $12/gal, or an increase of 50%. This is an unscientific one point poll, but it stands to reason that ethanol prices are on the way up. Gard your liquor cabinet. Tom
hmm. our scientific supply store lists 4L of reagent-grade etoh as costing $72.10. but i don't know what it cost in the past so i can't gauge much based on that.

We used to make ethanol in high school (not to use as a gasoline alternative B) ), and it isn't too hard. It's illegal to make it in your backyard, but it could be profitable!
oh, that was denatured etoh... i didn't even look up non-denatured! absolute ethanol: 4L $121.60  and you wouldn't wanna drink it with the benzene left over in there from the process of making it that pure.

They put phenolphthalein in lab ethanol, if I recall. Not too good for the ol' arse. BTW, the cost of a bushel of corn doubled from $2 to $4 over the last year.
