august 4, 2017: vdub exec oliver schmidt pleads guilty to 2 charges: conspiracy to defraud the federal government, and violating the clean air act. mr. schmidt faces up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000. fine on the first charge, and 2 years and $250,000. fine on the second.
The odd part is the government was aware of the cheat since at least 2010. I remember arguing with a guy from a college on the emissions cheat discovered at that time. It took a while for them to decide to prosecute. I still wonder who VW angered that they finally moved.
i can't find anything on line to that effect. everything points to diesel testing at w.virginia u in 2014, and the epa meeting with vdub in 2015.
