In the UK there have been many reports of BMW's with fob type entry and start systems being stolen by having new fobs programmed without an existing fob being present. The UK consumer program "Watch Dog" put out by the BBC stated that many other manufacturers could be affected. The cars are broken into "via the side window" then a scanner is put in the fob slot, the scanner then programs the new fob witch is used to drive the car away, this takes less than three mins. The scanners are on sale on the open market. BMW have offered to modify the system of the affected cars from 2001 to 2010 free of charge. I wonder if this will affect Toyotas.
