So I got a free break actuator from where I'm doing some work over at a tow lot actually a few of them but I used one in this 07 green car that's had all the amber lights on for various and sundry ABS problems including the maintenance light which I rarely reset even when I change the oil everything else been fine Amber including the TPMS light on also so today I put in the other brake actuator because I have the windshield wiper tray and everything already out this is a 45-minute operation get the new ABS unit in the car bolted to the firewall lightly connect all the ferrules to the unit. Get in the car hook up tech run through the brake bleed procedures but I do not bleed the wheels All I'm doing is clicking that I have and I've taken out the relays and I've put them back and blah blah blah I go straight to the part where it's bleeding the actuator internals and activating the valves and pumping 30 times I do all that I get a very good pedal and have good breaks and I move right over to do the linear valve offset which goes flawlessly now I can see when it works correctly exactly how it looks and it looks way different than what it was doing with the lights before something that I will never forget. And now all the lights are off on the dash all the amber lights including the TPMS light which has been flashing and on and the whole business since I got the car from the tow lot so it seems funny to me that the TPMS light can be kept on by brake malfunction having all the other amber lights on? Got to me seems very strange on my '09 car same vehicle essentially The TPMS light has been on and on forever even when I put the actuator on that car did the linear valve offset bled the brakes this has been two years ago I think The TPMS light never went out when all the other Amber's went out for the brakes In this vehicle the TPMS light is out now and as far as I know the cars never had wheel sensors or anything like that It's car seems to be bone factory.
Pretty sure when you do a full reset or turn off 12v power, the TPMS will be off. Eventually it realizes one or more of the sensors isn't communicating and it will trigger again.
Been about a hundred miles I'm waiting we'll see like I say it was on when I got the car as we're all the other orange lights because of the brake actuator problem I've reset this car several times in the light does go off for like seconds minutes maybe and then boom it's right back there flashing hunting for the TPMS broadcasting devices in the wheels and then it's just on not flashing this has been this way for 6 months I've driven like 50 mi today It's never been off this long and it's okay if it's off I just think it's kind of strange.
TPMS batteries can be marginal for a while and might work at some temperatures where they won't at others. The only way a TPMS failure just "goes away permanently" is if some part of the receiver was disassembled or damaged, and it is reassembled or replaced. Easy enough to tell if that is the case, in Techstream if it sees any sensors the receiver is OK. If they are all gone either all the batteries died or the receiver is messed up. When the TPMS light first starts it is highly unlikely that all 4 batteries died at the same time. I guess on a "new to you" car having all 4 batteries dead at first encounter is a possibility.
It's more than time for new TPMS sensors on this car I'm sure they're original and well look at the year there you go
