I am trying to take off the discount brands and install some new 195 65r15 for my car... Currently looking for good name brand tires that are $70-$150 a piece with a quiet, soft ride with decent treadwear since I do some Lyft driving and put around 3k miles a month. Walmart Douglas and Goodyear Assurances are out of my list, because I never liked them in my previous cars. Didn't feel too well with those, the Douglas got punctured easily on my old Volvo C30 in only a week.
Continental Truecontact Tour. Very quiet plush ride and they come with a long tread warranty. You may struggle to find them under $150, but these are worth it. General Altimax RT45 is mostly as good and cheaper. (General is Continental's discount brand)
I put on a set of Falken PRO G5 Touring A/S last July and have 26,000 miles on them now. Nice tires. Track well on uneven surfaces, handle OK in wind and rain. They were list price $108 back then and are about the same now. Lost about 5 MPG changing from a set of Bridgestones that wore out way too early.
The Continentals are $145 in my local discount tire, that seems like a good choice. Or I may just go for the Kumhos since they are also backed by the shop.
Actually, my current front tires are General Altimax. The tire shop shows they still have 6/10 treads, they are not too old, but they don't grip too well in the rain. They Generals kinda spin when I am using Eco mode in most cases, and the TC kicked in a few times from take offs. I am not sure if the previous owners got a bad set or anything, but it seems Generals are not performing too well.
A Prius has enough torque and a small-enough stock tire size that you'll be able to do that with any brand. If you go up a couple sizes you can eliminate that effect, but bye-bye MPG if you do.
I think 205 60/15 and 205 65/15 have the same prices or even lower prices than 195, and they're easier to find too.
