I need to change winter tires to summer tires on my 2012 Prius. I currently have 15” wheels with winter tires on the car. I also have a spare set of 15” summer tires and a spare set of original Toyota 17” wheels with old tires. I have some options: 1) Change the current 15” winter wheels for the 17” Toyota wheels with new 17” tires. 2) Keep the current wheels and just swap the 15” winter tires for the 15” summer tires. 3) Get new or used 15” wheels and put my 15” summer tires on. Any thoughts what might be the best option? I have never driven the car with the 17” wheels.
Tires are not meant to be taken-off and put-on many times. Some manufactures even spec only one install for the tire. Either get another set of 15" wheels, and have Two sets of fully mounted wheels. Or, go to 17" wheels and tires. Your choice, depending on budget and desire. For what it's worth, back "when I wore a younger man's clothes", I had 3 Full sets of 4-tires. 1 Full set: Ultra Performance Summer tires 1 Full set: All Season tires for those Autumn months when it was too cold for Ultra performance Summer-only tires, but I didn't need snow yet (October, November, and first half of December - in Southern New England). 1 Full set: Bridgestone Blizzaks (accept no others!! ) Fyi: "when I wore a younger man's clothes" Billy Joel - Piano Man (Official HD Video) Dec 9, 2009Billy Joel (last line in the first verse) Billy Joel – Piano Man Lyrics | Genius Lyrics Good Luck!
But beware of ABS / VSC / TRAC errors if the tire rolling circumferences aren't closely enough matched.
