I have a 2010 Prius, purchased in late March—which means it's due for 6-month/5K service. Basically tire rotation. But the car has only about 2,500 miles on it, and I'll likely be driving less over the winter than I did over the summer. So I might not even make it to 5K by the car's first birthday. Is tire rotation necessary at this point? I just called the dealer and they said no, tire rotation is strictly a "wear" issue so the 6-month timeline doesn't really apply. They say I can probably wait for my 1-year service and then do both oil/filter change and tire rotation. Any thoughts? Will not doing tire rotation at 6 months void any kind of warranty? P.S. for what it's worth, I intend to do all basic maintenance on this car myself; I don't have any maintenance contracts or coupons for dealer service.
I would think the the tire warranty would lie with the tire manufacture not with Toyota. Therefore I would call them and get a determination. Since I rotate my tires when I swap out my summer and winters tires, I am covered. I do track the exact mileage with I do the swap however. If you are planning to pay someone to do the rotation, I can see why you are concerned.
Tire rotation attempts to even out tire wear caused by use, not age. There is no reason to rotate your tires so soon. Tom
I am with your dealer on this one, no need to rotate so soon. In fact I go one step further, no need to rotate tires at all until you can measure a difference in wear. Here is another thread you may find of interest: http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-iii...leshooting/85211-never-rotate-your-tires.html
