On top of the engine air filter is rectangular plastic cover. Inside the cover is another filter that doesn't come out. What is it called, and when does it get replaced?
It is a carbon filter element, for emissions, and as far as I know doesn't need replacing, I guess unless it is damaged somehow. EDIT- hydrocarbon, carbon impregnated, not just plain carbon MT2L03 ?

The carbon filter attached to the cover is not replaceable. It is there to absorb residual gas fumes when the engine is off for emissions purposes.
