    Toyota City, Japan – Toyota will use a new, improved version of its “Ecological Plastic†that features the world’s first use of bio-PET, made from plant-derived material, for liners and other interior surfaces. The company has been used bio-based Ecological Plastic in its vehicles since 2000.

    I remember reading about Toyota's Sugar Beets investments. It seemed absolutely crazy and disjointed until it became clear that sugar beets were excellent for making bioplastic.

    Hi All,

    I have generally been against Bio-Plastics, as I think the best sequestration for Fossil Hydrocarbons is in the dashboards of cars.

    But, My 2010 has had allot less outgassing of noxious vapors than the 2006 did. So, maybe this is part of that improvement?

    I remember the first gen bio-plastic in my 2000 Celica. 2010 Prius has much better bio-plastic. This would be even better.

    Clean coal should be in there, too.

    As for benign materials to make cars from, what about hemp? Was Monsanto's smear campaign so good that we have to endure jokes about smoking dashboards, not just eating them?

    I don't know. But, judging by people's generally immature reaction, I can understand why they don't advertise the fact. Hemp is not a drug.
