I purchased my Prius at the end of February. I recieved a plastic credit-card with my vin number on it for my Toyota Care. I read somewhere that you are suppose to get coupons. Does the card now take the place of the coupon?. Also do I get 2 free oil changes since my card says "synthetic oil", regardless of how long it might take me to get to 20,000 mile?. What if I want to change my oil every 5,000 miles, will Toyota still give me two free oil changes, or does my car actually have to be at 10,000 and 20,000 miles?
Can't answer your question about the card...though, IIRC, the coupons do mention 10,000 miles or one year as requirements. The oil change "freebie" depends on the dealer but they will make exceptions if your mileage is lower than average. Remember that Toyota's recommended oil changes are at 10,000 miles or once yearly....say you only go 7000 miles the first year; you should easily meet that requirement.
I can only tell you what the service guy told me. He said you are allocated $X (I don't know the amount) for the maintenance. He said that you can have your oil changed at any time you want, but your money allocation will be deducted. And once your allocated money is gone, you gotta pay for whatever maintenance is done. I'm not sure that's correct, but that's what he said. I was thinking that maybe what they actually do is allocate you the 2 oil changes, and you get those whenever you want. But let's assume you get them at 5,000 and 10,000 miles, both within the first year. Then, they won't do any more free oil changes, but maybe they'll still do the "other" stuff listed in the maintenance schedule within the free maintenance. Mike
I think this is a case of the service guy talking out of his you-know-what. The descriptions I've seen for Toyota Care say it covers scheduled maintenance. So they'll pay, for example, for the oil service when it's scheduled (every 10K miles or 1 year, whichever comes first).
