Just read on CNN's news feed page: Toyota's electric cars will adopt Tesla's charging standard | CNN Business Tesla charging method. We drive a 2017 Prius 4. Won't effect our car.
This is an industry trend. Tesla was being obstinate about releasing the full specs of their charging port and standard and also about demanding a fairly high licensing fee for any other automaker that wanted to use it. That changed several months back when they reversed course and made it an open standard run by a neutral third party. With that change, pretty much the entire industry is switching to it. While the high voltage DC charging won't affect the Prius Prime, I think we might see the plug on the car change so every car uses the same plug(the standard allows for both DC and AC terminals in the same plug). If that happens, current owners will probably get an adapter from Toyota at no cost.
