Hi all! So, do Toyota dealers use the "Toyota" branded engine oil for maintenance, or just whatever is cheaper? Can I request that they use Toyota, and will they charge me? Thanks for any information!
Our nearby dealership sells bottled litres of Toyota oil, various weights, synthetic and conventional. They also some of the weights in bulk.
Toyota requires dealers to use its oil for warranty repairs and ToyotaCare maintenance—in other words, when the cost is billed to Toyota. In principle, dealers are free to use engine oil from other sources for customer-paid oil changes. In the U.S., Genuine Toyota Motor Oil, in bulk and package quantities, is supplied by ExxonMobil, but it doesn’t necessarily have the same formulation as engine oils sold under the Mobil 1 trademark.
When I did design work for a major oil company, one of the many North American facilities I worked with bottled our premium oil for Ford and for our brand on the same lines with the same blends. My peers at ExxonMobil did the same thing for their rebranded customers.
