Does anyone know from experience if dealers can reject any part of an offer from Toyota Financial? Or are these completely separate from what happens at the dealership? For example, Toyota Financial offers 1000 college grad rebate on a number of cars, including a Prius C. About half the dealers list this program, but many don't have the Prius on their list. This could be because it simply wasn't on the list any of the past year. Can some dealers choose to not do the program, or exclude cars from it, or do they just not want to advertise it because the cars sell well enough?
Promos are subject to dealer participation, especially if the promo is coming out of their pocket. Is their a difference in the rate with & without the rebate?
Short answer: Yes. Dealers can refuse to participate in everything from the MSRP to college rebates, military discounts, etc. Usually there is a catsass (*) somewhere in an ad, followed by a about a paragraph of legalese in 2-pitch font at the very bottom. One time, on one deal I had a dealer (Saturn) refuse to give me a military discount ($1,000) despite the fact that there was a large placard in the dealership showroom proudly displaying this discount. Long story short....I bought the car (for my CFO) peppered Saturn with a large number faxes to various parts of the organization explaining the situation, and LANDBLASTED them on the customer survey form. Three months later when I was in the sandbox they offered 10,000 apologies honored the agreement, and threw in an extended warranty. That was my last car from GM's big gassy ball, and they don't make or sell them any more. TIFWIW. (Current street value < $0.02) If you're out on the left coast, look at a gas station. How much is gas going for? Hint: It's gone up here $0.25 in the last week...and it's @ 3.29 now. Priuses are selling like crazy, especially the trial-sized model. Dealerships have a right to mark their cars up, refuse to honor incentive programs, etc. You have the right to buy at another dealership, or get a different car. If you "have to have" a C-model, shop around. I've heard where well qualified buyers are getting a few hundred bucks off of (true) MSRP, but that's about it. Good Luck!
So in the process of buying the car, I figured out the answer.. Individual dealers can participate or not in any of the Toyota Financial offers. However, they cannot reject part of an offer, its all or nothing (this is according to Toyota Corporate). So while the dealer argued with me for 10 min that the Prius is not eligible for the 1000 rebate. I showed them the page, told them to contact Toyota financial and got my 1000 bucks...
The College Grad rebates are for the following cars as of July 9th: $1,000 rebate when you purchase or lease any new Toyota Camry (excluding Hybrid models), Corolla, Matrix, RAV4, Tacoma, Yaris or Prius c, between now and January 2, 2013. and you HAVE TO FINANCE WITH TFS TO GET THE REBATE.
