so I opened it up and low and behold there on the front cover is Andrew Grant and his Prius taxi! inside is an article on his experience using the Prius as a taxi. Say's his 2k1 Prius went 332,000Km. An interesting point that he never told me in our discussions on the Prius was the mileage increase between the 2k1 and the 2k3 that Toyota gave him in exchange for the 2k1 and that is the better mileage the 2k3 produced. 2k1 averaged 5.1 to 4.7 liter per hundred Km. (55 to 60 mpg) 2k3 averaged 4.3 to 4.1 liter per hundred Km. (65 to 70 mpg) between his Prius cabs he's gone almost 700,000 km. Nice to see official recognition for his use of the Prius.
Andrew has done a fantastic job of squishing the battery-pack myth for us. No matter how detailed of a description I provide about Toyota's power management system, some people still don't believe that replacement might not ever be needed. His taxis provide proof by having already exceeded the distance they ever thought possible... twice! 332,000 kilometers = 206,295 miles 368,000 kilometers = 228,664 miles By the way, there are photos of his 2 taxi Prius on an owner page of my website. So if anyone else ever wondered what a yellow Prius looked like...
I don't have to wonder I've been in both and seen 3 of the 4 2k4 taxi's in the fleet. I'd love to have his in's with Toyota. If you want to know the weak spots on a Prius just ask him. To be honest there are a few but very few compared to other makes and models. I just wish he was more active on PC. One of the most personable people I've ever met.
