not much there, and no citations. sounds like an idea, but idk if it can be pulled off. uk dealerships are different than n/a, so even if it worked there, would dealers go for it here? ship back to factory for refurbishing sound sexpensive in itself, but i do like the idea of recycling, though it has not been accomplished well in the past.
As always this is about money! By current measure the price of used cars have gone up by 37% in less than a year. But I suspect the real target here is collector's cars because recently a mint condition 1990 Toyota truck sold at auction for $39K. So it'd make sense that Toyota tinkers with tracking down low mileage cars and refurbishing them. What's more this could expand their car parts sales opportunities if it became viable. Of course one thing they will fail at is that classic car rebuilders are always going to be way better at that job than Toyota will ever be when it comes to doing the work affordably.
