I live in Arizona and purchased a Prius Three two week ago. Toyota has now nixed extended warranties being sold to anyone who does not live in the state where the dealer is or who does not come in person to the dealership. So, what's the best option now for a bargain on the platinum warranty?
#1. Warranties are not a great bargain. That's why you can't buy a PBJ sandwich at a diner without the server asking you if you'd like an extended warranty to go with it. #2 The OP accurately points out that there is a HUGE difference between an OEM warranty, and an extended service contract. If you feel you must get additional coverage, DO YOUR HOMEWORK. #3 This is the G2 forum. Why would a topic for extended warranties apply here? #4 Many people think that you have to buy a factory warranty at the dealer.....when you buy the car. If a dealer is telling you that this is so, then they are lying to you. What else are they lying about? This is 2015. Even crap cars that you buy new last pretty much for 5 years and/or 100,000 miles. You're MUCH better off with the $1000 that you would use to purchase the additional warranty in the bank for a rainy day fund than you would ever be by overpaying for a warranty when you buy the car. Good Luck!
