I've never thought the traction control on the Prius (at least Gen 2-3) was good at all and always seems to trigger at the worst possible times.

However lately I've noticed that the traction control triggering randomly when I'm decelerating or accelerating to exit/enter a highway using a clover leaf. In some of those situations I'm going maybe a bit faster than I should be but still nowhere near wheel slip. It catches me off guard and definitely can lead me to losing control.

My Prius is also lifted 1.5" with the Prius Offroad kit and fitted with Yokohama Geolandar A/T G015 205/70R15 tires. I've had these tires for ~30k miles without any issues. Within ~2k miles I had the two rear tires replaced because of some nails on the highway so there may be a very slight tread depth mismatch.

I'm betting that my tires are the cause and there might some "crabbing" upsetting the wheel speed sensors. But since this hasn't happened before I'm wondering if anyone has a second opinion.

    Thanks

I was 27-in OD just a few months ago with only a 40 mm lift and never had any traction control issues at all even with crappy tires after that I dropped the front end back to stock and left the lift in the back only and went back to 195 65 15 which are what 25 in or something I can't remember brand new tires obviously and no traction control issues at all any mismatch and tires I can't get over 60 MPH because the traction control will activate so much but other than that no recently I've hit a couple spots or the traction control went off but I was in fact slipping so doing its job so I don't know what could be setting it off on you like that just because maybe the traction control computer it's a big one too right up above your gas pedal foot got a buttload of plugs going to it maybe that thing is just not happening I guess it uses the wheel speed sensors and all that so you need to make sure all of those are good they generally have codes.

Have you made the same turns in the same places without the traction control activating before I even live in the same place this is a normal driving business in style? If so this is before the lift and before the big tires and so on? Just trying to suss out where you were when it started happening or this just started like the other day and you've been driving with this system for a while with no lights and no problem? If so that would to me sound like either some traction control related sensor before Wheels come to mind for the traction control vehicle skid control computer about where your gas pedal foot is and like I said it's a big one but looks like it's easy to get to and possibly get out I had to undo the bottom of it to mess with the heater control motor

I was going to ask if all the tires are the same size. The two newer tires, must remain on the same axle. The lift along with the out of spec. tires may be pushing the traction control to it's limit. You'll need to crawl underneath to make sure there's no lose connections, frayed wires, or bad traction control sensors. Sometimes when you run over road debris, it can snag one of the traction control sensor wires.
If you can get it on an OBD2 scanner to see which sensor is triggering; that'll narrow down your troubleshooting.

    Hope this helps

You get high enough wires stretch I imagine at 40mm here not noticable
