My 2008 Prius (option 2) has 180k original miles, but I have a new dealer-installed hybrid battery with only 5K miles on it. The car is clean, very well maintained, and has no issues. What could I expect for a trade-in value or private party sale?
You will get joke money offered for trade in value, or they will manipulate figures to make it look like a lot. Much better selling it yourself and using that money toward your new car. Get a car loan approved ahead of time at the best interest rate you can, sell the car, and pound on the dealer for the lowest price
Make sure you have EGR valve cleaning listed as one of things you've had done when you sell... And if you're uncomfortable about selling on your own via craigslist, one strategy to improve security and a hassle free transaction is to meet the buyer of your car at their bank. That way you witness them getting the cash or cashiers check from the bank teller and there's plenty of security cameras to document the transaction if anything untoward happens.
On a trade in, there is no additional value to your newish HV battery. It's just a 2008 Prius to them. On a private party sale, you can possibly get $1000 more than a comparable 2008 because of the newish HV battery.
Yes, except the part about EGR cleaning, you don't have to worry about that on Gen2 Prius... Apologies, thought I was in the PriusC forum.
Thought I was in PriusC Forum... Wish they'd make it easier to differentiate between each forum without requiring so much scrolling because my bad memory seem to like to discourage me from scrolling.
It does tell you the forum underneath the link to the thread . Just one way they try to make identification easy.
I have to scroll up for that... I'd like a sidebar indicating with a color which forum it is, as well as details of vehicle in question that hovers next to every post so you don't lose track of who you're talking to and there's no scrolling through the thread. This forum is fast approaching 20 years of age and there's lots of improvements that could be made.
Now if we could only get the site admin interested in coming back and contributing . That would help with improvements .
That's yet another problem with Priuschat.... Why make newbies find the right forum to post to? Why not do that for them? IT'd be far more welcoming than telling so many they posted in the wrong forum.
Maybe we all chip in and buy the site from 'em? I'm sure their asking price is way lower than it used to be thanks to Toyota running the Prius brand into the ground so badly of late.
Clean it out, vacuum, run through wash, find a nice landscape/background, and take good pictures. List for $4995 approx with receipt of hybrid in ad. You'll get $4500 pretty easily and possibly 5k. imo. Dealership might give you a thousand or 1.5k lol.
