I just recieved a trailer wiring kit for a PIP. It says on the box 2004- current toyota prius. Of course the order was for a PIP trailer hitch and the wiring kit. Instructions talk about a 12v battery in the back. It shows a picture of a spare tire also. I know mine has no spare and I think the only 12v battery in the car is in the engine compartment. Anyone use one of these easy do it yourself wiring kits and what did they have to do run a wire to the front battery. Or is there a simpler solution? The side panels they talk about getting behind near the rear lights, is the wiring the same on the gen 3 prius on the drivers and passenger sides are they the same on the PIP?
The 12V battery is under the access panel on the passenger side of the hatchback. You lift out the storage tray under the carpeted cover. There may be one or more clips holding it in place. There is no battery under the hood, 12V or otherwise.
found that battery How do you remove the side panels to get to the tail light wiring harness on the passenger and driver side. There is little access panels for the shock bolts but the wiring harness maybe just above those. Is that what I have to disconnect.
Found a you tube video that explains it all looks easy. I should have done this first and not had to post. Thanks for the help anyways.
Kurbmaster, I'm trying to outfit my plug-in with trailer wiring. I know it was a while ago, but what wiring kit did you use? Was it from Uhaul or Hopkins by chance? You also refer to a youtube video. I can't find one for the plug-in. Thanks.
