On the plus side, the Clio isn't using much gas! Sky News: Probe As Video Shows Lorry Shunt Car at 60mph
"The spokesman added: "As far as I'm aware the lady driver got out of the car and walked away unharmed. "Mystery surrounds how the Renault Clio got there and why the lorry driver failed to notice." Strange. I've seen accidents on I-81 south of Harrisonburg, VA, usually occurring at dusk, where the cars have been repeatedly rolled over when they somehow get sideways in front of a truck. Very ugly. It brings true meaning to the phrase, "the car was totaled." I guess the rain and possibly a thin layer of oil on the roadway saved the driver's life in this case.
Wow, just wow. That lady was incredibly lucky. Here's an article from the Mirror Driver tells how she dialled 999 as truck shunted her car along motorway - mirror.co.uk
Want to know how a car can get into that situation? This was filmed while making a video report of truck drivers driving dangerously on Australian roads.
That's an interesting one Pat. Who would be the driver at fault in an accident like that one, do you know? They obviously both went for the same lane change at the same time. At least the truck driver did use his blinker, though it didn’t come on until just as he actually started the mauver, so not long enough warning. I looks like the merc driver however made no attempt at all to indicate.
In the US, the truck driver would be at fault because he effectively rear-ended the other car. Generally speaking, whoever is in front has right-of-way, and there are few exceptions to that rule when determining "at-fault" for insurance purposes. As to who was the worse driver, that's a toss-up. The trucker obviously wasn't looking, and the other driver didn't indicate a lane change. I give an F to the trucker, and a D-minus to the merc.
At least this truck driver saw the results and immediately starting slowing down and pulling over in a controlled fashion. That ranks him much higher than the UK driver who just kept speeding along the motorway with the car on his nose.
Clearly this could have been avoided if Aussies drove on the right - and by right I mean correct - side of the road. Then the truck driver could have easily seen the car.
Oh crap, There it is! It's ALL them truckdrivers that are bad drivers. Cabover's have an ugly blind spot and that car was in it. You can't see what is directly in front of the truck.
If it were Front Wheel Drive and the driver of the sedan hit the throttle hard - might have been able to pull that one out of the fire. Not that I'd be able to think that quick - but it was my first thought while watching. The wheel was turned properly to get out of the push, but no power to the front wheels.
But the car in that Australian video looks like a Mercedes E class, also RWD The lorry performed a classic P.I.T. maneuver
