    Hello All,

I have a 2010 Prius with 290k miles which now shows signs of head gasket failure because my coolant in the reservoir is slowly going down. It is also consuming a lot of oil.

Need to know if anybody in the DC/Baltimore area has any recommendations for a shop or mechanic that can do a decent job of rebuilding my engine to replace my head gasket and replace/upgrade my piston heads and rings to new ones. I would also entertain an engine swap if that is more cost effective.

Hope to hear back with some recommendations. Thanks in advance.

I'm sure there are some trusted people up that way my brother lives there i personally don't know anybody but what i would be getting geared up for is an engine swap 200k that to me that's not a lot for a Toyota it's a good bit for a gen 3 prius besides a head gasket leak you could have a piston problem and one or two all kinds of issues when they take the head off they'll find out hopefully if they're worth their salt as mechanics i had a Toyota dealer mechanic that was not worth his salt didn't see any of this put the engine back together with a broken connecting rod essentially or close to it you can buy an engine JDM spec cheaper than you can afford to touch your existing engine that's just the nature of the beast you would do better to buy a JDM spec engine out of new jersey the company is JDM i bought an engine in transmission delivered to my door for under 13 probably one of the better purchases i've made that's $1,300 basically got it in for $800 and it's running very well fixing repairing will be very costly because of hourly labor rates

Thanks for sharing your experience and for your prompt reply. Yes, I agree that there might be more problems seen after the engine is opened up. Right now still getting decent mpg at 45. Just don't think I can trust to take this car on a long trip any longer unless this problem is fixed.

Yep I Get it I had to put my 3 down till twas reliable .so I keep a gen2 at the ready. And two motorbikes. I don't even know how you guys are doing that 45-47 miles to gallon thing i've never gotten over 46.5 in the gen 2 and the gen 3 44 45 maybe. And everything on the gen 3 is pretty much brand new cleaned and all the numbers look reasonable of course this is with my wife driving it so I don't expect ever maximum gas mileage
