$99 seems rather cheap for a device with an "electrochromatic LCD".

Cheaper than the alternatives, but worth watching. The alternatives don't require your phone to be on the dashboard.

    Garmin Head-Up Display review - CNET - $149.99

    Navdy - $299 (pre-order)/$499 (retail)

To be honest, I've never really gotten into the habit of using the HUD in my Prius. It seems like it should be safer and easier than glancing down or to the side, but I don't seem to actually use it. I have noticed that it seems easier to understand when a turn is actually imminent than the overly busy nav screen.

I thought a true HUD would put the apparent focus distance out at infinity, or at least to some distance similar to the outside scene. This is important for us 'mature' folks with aging eyes that change focus at a far slower rate than when we were teens.

    This device can't do that.
