Okay, now I have another issue to tackle. When you turn the steering wheel, left of right, the horn honks at random stages of turn. Nothing long, just a short honk. If you stop the wheel where the honk happened, it just honks. I need help, first assessing how to get into the steering column, and secondly, how to correct the obvious short in the wiring. Thanks
The horn wiring travels with the other steering wheel switch and airbag circuits in a wound-up flat cable called "spiral cable" or "clockspring" 'cause it looks like one, and when it gets really worn, that's what happens. This is the part. At techinfo.toyota.com you can find the service manual with all the instructions for getting behind the airbag and steering wheel to replace the spiral cable, and how to do it properly handling the airbag so it doesn't handle you. -Chap
