On the driver's side of the dashboard just under the edge of the windshield are two small hemispheres protruding from the surface of the dash. What are they? (Prius '04.)
You have Two? I'm jealous, I only have one I THINK one is the temperature sensor for climate control and the other is for DRL Light sensing. I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong. Since DRL apparently isn't available in the States, I figure that's the one I'm missing.
One is the positronic matter inverter and the other is a pencil sharpener. Don't touch the positronic matter inverter with your pencil.
One is for the climate control system and the other is for Automatic headlight cntrol system. In Canada for sure, not sure on US models.
The larger one is the solar radiation (sunlight) sensor for the air conditioning system. The smaller one is the daylight sensor for daytime running lights (Canada only).
on page 104 of the owners manual it shows the position of the sensor on the dash for the auto headlight option.
Thx guys. I'm in Canada. So the Americans only have one sensor... Interesting. I would have thought you'd have both globes there, but one would just be non-functional. Or else a covered hole where that globe would be, to keep the parts identical. So for those of you with Nav... where is the antenna for the GPS?
There is a 'covered hole' where the other one would be. Really more of a pre-scored knockout plug it looks like. I agree, they should have put the bubble on there, would have looked much more finished.
It's under the plastic of the dashboard right behind the touch screen. Plastic doesn't interfere with GPS signals, so it can still pick up OK from underneath. Dave
