Attempted to connect a fuse in the fuse box to attach a 12v accessory device but I need to have it active ONLY when car is running. Using a volt meter I find all the fuse sockets are active without the car running. I tried most all the fuse sockets. My next plan is to remove one of the driving light connectors and tap the wire but getting to the passenger side headlight wires is easy but how to remove the bulb socket to replace the little bulb but I just want to tap the wire (getting it up to work on it). The one socket has a blue single wire going to it. The device I am connecting only draws 1-2 amps at best so overloading the circuit is really not an issue.
There are "crimp-on" nylon wire tappers available. You lay the wire you want to tap in them and a new wire (which ends in the nylon). Then you fold over part of the nylon and crimp it with pliers. Do be careful with these, as if you are careless you can cut the wire you're trying to tap. If it's inside the cabin use the power from the "accessory socket", either tapping into it or just using a plug. Finally, no matter which method you use, be sure to include a fuse in your new wire, close to the point where you tapped in.
