If it is not the big diesel burner then it is the one with the GT stripes... and the Prius c (Yaris HSD) gets the least number of votes! See the results so far in the Voting Booth on Wheels24.co.za.
I think it's the same everywhere. Motoring journo's are enthusiasts and enjoy throwing cars round winding roads. The Prius is a smooth, quiet and comfortable ride and ideal for commutes or generally just driving about. Not the sort of vehicle that would appeal to an enthusiast. OK, the Prius appeals to a different type of enthusiast; just not the sort who buys car magazines. I'll give an example. A popular car magazine review here in the UK slated the Prius for having lackluster steering which was too light. This same magazine ran an owners survey and the Prius came out top because...wait for it....the owners liked the smooth ride and light steering. It appears buyers and journos are at differing ends of the spectrum. When your friends complain about the cost of petrol, you can just smile that smug, sly Prius driver smile and carry on saving money.
Slow, extremely slow. I have tried to find specific numbers but could not find any so far. Not one of the hybrid models feature under the 75 best sellers in South Africa during 2012 as reported by this website. And since we have got another Toyota hybrid in the form of the Auris HSD that slots in between the Gen III Prius and the Prius c, their sales are very slow. As far as I could gather the Auris HSD have got the 1.8l ICE of the Gen III and apparently appeals more to the performance orientated buyers than the Yaris HSD with the 1.5l ICE. Personally I have never seen any of the Auris or Yaris HSD models.
