I really like the shelf under the bridge. I really dont like throwing stuff there, what a mess in plain sight too. Plus the console is kinda small and stuff gets buried. I dont like putting stuff I use often in the glove boxes. Came up with a pocket for the shelf. Holds my phone charger & Nuvi with room for more.
I use it for small "this trip only" items so it doesn't get cluttered, as you mentioned. I added a tiny light down there (LED) so it can be seen at night. It was easy to add a second LED to the main cup holder too. Now both are illuminated at night. By day: By night:
