I noticed the Styrofoam molded inserts are removable. Are there after market inserts that have more usable cubbies? Alternatively, can you store stuff down there without the inserts? I'm looking for ways to maximize storage for stuff I like to always have in the car: emergency and first aid kits, towels, blankets, tire inflator, fix a flat kit.

if there is room, toyota may sell the inserts that hold a spare tyre

There may be wiring under the inserts. You don't want to put something heavy directly on those.

You can easily replace those inserts with the ones for the higher trims and the raised floor deck. You'll lose total cargo volume though. Toyota also has a configuration that holds a spare.
