Lifted the front and back, scraped off loose surface rust and hit it all with Rust reformer. Just bought her last week, 2005 with 217k miles, otherwise in great shape. Lived its whole like in Ohio, now retired to the sunny south...
Sorry but complete waste of time. Your just addressing the rust on the outside like Georgina said it’s what you can’t see that will get you. Open the hatch get flashlight and look in the hole the 12 volt battery sits in look under the spare tire. See how bad it is in there at the least it will sitting in water. If it was me I would put all my time and energy into addressing the high voltage hybrid battery in the trunk. As it will soon fail. Use search forum tab up top and search Hybrid battery And see what almost every g2 owner is addressing or will soon address. Without a healthy hybrid battery the car is a 3500 lb brick. It’s the usual reason people sell there g2 that or The engine is a little oil eating monster.
Make sure all the body drain holes, including the doors, sills, rocker and quarter panels are clear to drain water. After that, use a compressed air siphon gun to inject rust converter into these areas.
I don't agree with you, it has slowed down if not suppressed further corrosion in the most important areas. Under the spare tire is completely clean. I was well aware of the hv battery prior to purchase and can drop a new (not reconditioned) one in at any time. It is in excellent condition. It has a very well documented service history from day 1. I have been checking the oil, and so far, after 1k miles, no noticeable changes.
