A couple of days ago my husband and I both noticed that the engine coolant pump is sounding differently than it used to when the car starts up. It kind of gurgles a bit as if there was air in the system. I'm not too worried about it yet, since I had read about this before on Priuschat and since we have a long time before the warranty is up. The car is about 1 year old with about 12500 miles. It has been below freezing, but not as cold as it was back in December. When the pump runs when we turn the car off it sounds perfectly normal.

I was wondering if anyone who had previously posted on this issue (or anyone who hadn't) had the problem resolved, or if everyone is still taking a wait and see approach. Has this sound gone away for anyone? If there is air in the coolant system will this cause problems? Where could the air have come from since nothing has been done with the coolant system since we purchased the car? Any other ideas to what causes this new sound?

Thanks in advance for your comments!

as i recall, and jeromep will have to back me up on this because i can't find it... the tech was able to use the scantool to test the pump and it worked fine, it was determined to be okay.

jeromep has the final word on this, he was the one who was there.

Should be okay. I had the pump make a really weird sound (different pitch for one). I took it in and they bled the system and said there was no air in it and it was normal. That was in December. Now I noticed that it'll make that sound when it's left parked in below freezing temperatures overnight.
