hey everyone, so need some advice, backstory, in los angeles, heavy rain today, drove the car about 40 miles no issues, while leaving we were at a red light, tried to go but the car was no longer in ready mode, long story short had to push the car in the rain to a parking lot, disconnected negative terminal to reset the car/codes , nothing worked, then finally gave up , put the car in neutral, pushed it further and then tried to turn it back on and it actually turned on, drove it home another 40 miles, parked it, turned it off/on no problem, few hours later tried to turn it back on and same problem, goes to ig on mode "ready" light flashed a few times but thats it, so now with the techstream software following codes are showing, P0aa5-229, u0100-212, u0293 P0AA5/229 HYBRID BATTERY NEGATIVE CONTACTOR CIRCUIT STUCK OPEN U0293 Lost Comm w/ Hybrid Powertrain Control Module ( guessing this is caused by the above code) U0100/212 -LOST COMMUNICATION WITH ECM/PCM ”A” ( guessing also caused by p0AA5 so i found the page for P0AA5 GND short in system main relay No. 3 circuit -Wire harness or connector -System main relay No. 3 -HV control ECU what is my next step? i would think to test the system main relay no 3 but can anyone direct me to where it is and how to test it? and what to look for in the test results? this is my only/daily car and i work 7 days a week and will be trying to work on this in the rain so any help is appreciated
Unfortunately your next step is quite dangerous You're going to be messing around inside the battery pack which has at least standing voltage of 211 volts and higher upwards of 300 or close to it The contactor relays that they're discussing here are on the front end of the battery so you have 28 or so battery cells. And then ahead of those and on the left side of the battery when standing looking down at the battery with the hatch open there is the front end of the battery which houses a set of relays and or contactors your battery control module or ECM is also there so is a ground strap and some related wiring If you don't know what you're doing in there I would tell you to stay out of there It's not for the faint of heart or folks that have no understanding of high current electric this is equivalent to your dryer vent plug power It's not a joke. Even with the orange plug removed that basically disables most of the battery it's still dangerous to be playing around in there if you don't know what's live and what isn't and you're fooling around back there with metal screwdrivers and things like that some people are going to want insulated screwdrivers and pliers that's what electricians use when they work on live and semi-live circuits many people don't have these in their tool boxes please beware of what you're doing and be very careful I'm not saying this to be funny.
Thank you for the reply, GOD willing I should be okay, I went to vocational school as an electrician so I do have some knowledge of playing around with live circuits etc, I just need to know which relay they are referring to as" no.3 circuit" I do have insulated tools, meter, etc, Any pictures or diagrams directing me to the specific would also be appreciated. Also when I find the relay what am I looking for? Continuity? Specific ohm?
