We have a 2012 Prius (3) and with our USB flash drive in its port, when the car comes on, the music begins to play without being turned on. Is this the way it's supposed to be? If not, how can I correct this situation? Doug
I don't have a USB port in my car to confirm, but that sounds correct to me. Just like if you have CD input selected (or BT), that would also start when you turn the car on.
It is a 'feature'. Even if the radio was off when the car was turned off, it turns back on when you start the car. And even if you were listening to the radio, but have the usb input attached, it switches to the usb input after a few seconds. I have never seen such a stupidly designed radio. Perhaps one day, toyota will have a software upgrade to fix it.

FWIW, my 2010 (with DVD/Nav) does not behave like this. (I use an 8GB USB flash drive, with many folders of mp3-formatted files). Perhaps the newer models got an "upgrade."
With all of the updates in place it shouldn't do this anymore. Mine used to but it no longer defaults to the USB. If I was listening to the radio when the car was turned off it will stay on the radio. Make sure you have the most current updates in place.
My 2012 base Prius does not behave like this. We always have a USB stick inserted and it will not start on it's own.
I think this is an entune feature. I updated my PiP entune with the flash drive that toyota mailed me. For some reason, they sent 2 separate letters, each with a flash drive in it. I suspect that non-entune radios don't do the stupid things that the entune radio does.
I have this issue from time to time but with bluetooth music. Every once in a while when I get in my car (even though I was using radio when I last used it) the bluetooth will automatically load my music library and start playing. Maybe this is an audio system glitch some people have? I did update Entune so I don't think that's the cause. I also happened to notice this causes my bluetooth phone function to stop working. I usually have to turn the bluetooth on my phone off and back on to resolve this.
Simplest thing I've found isvto hit the "am of fm" radio button.. That switches it off that mode. Then turn the radio off. Alan... The second mouse gets the cheese! galaxy S3 with Tapatalk 2
