This last weekend I took my 2004 in for its first problem since buying it from a friend in 2005. The MFD was acting up, and it seems that the behavior is consistent with the known malfunctions as detailed in TSB EL002-05, so it looks like a new (reman) MFD is in the works if the connectors are OK.... But, at the same time, he ran a "Vehicle Diagnostic Report" that listed about 80 apparently negative "events" that could occur, and the frequency of their occurrence. Most of them showed zero, but some are obviously incorrect. Here's a sample: Main Battery Low Voltage - Last Trip 254 Coolant Heating - Last Trip 254 Shift Without Depressing Brake - Last Trip 254 Shift P in Running - Last Trip 254 Accelerator & Brake Depress - Last Trip 254 The guy tried to tell me that my driving habits were stressing the main battery. That may well be, but certainly not for the reasons shown. I cannot recall *ever* depressing the accelerator and brake simultaneously. Maybe once or twice I hit "P" while moving at <1MPH, but 254? Sometines I shift to "N" while moving, but not that often. And what's with this 254 number? Surely each of these independent events could not occur the exact same number of times? Anybody have an idea? Thanks.... P.S. I bought a 2010 Prius V while I was waiting for the diagnosis.....
254 may be the limit of the recorder. If it's using a byte to hold values, it would range from 0-255. 255 may be used to represent an error. Who knows.. and actually I don't recall seeing anything previously about a "vehicle diagnostic report" that captures these kinds of events. Shift without depressing brake makes no sense. The computer won't even let you do that (due to federal regulations).
Can it be that the 254 is a code which means 1?. It is odd as you describe it. What did Toyota said? W3Bconsultor
Except, of course, for shifting to neutral, which I do now and again so I can clean the brake discs; and shifting to B when coming down a long hill when your battery gets full...or, I think, shifting back to D after these events...
