Did anybody see this? Verizon to use hybrid vehicles in New York - Toyota Prius My wife and I cruise the dealer lot about once a week, and Sunday night I saw a white, 2008 Prius with Verizon decals all over it. But what really caught my eye was the extra cap and rubber plug cover just aft of the gas cap. I had her stop the car and I got out to take a close look. Couldn't figure that out. The first thing that I thought was "Holy Crap! a plug in Prius!" This car did not have plates on it yet. So I call the dealer today and ask what it was. The guy I first spoke to was clueless; said he'd call me back. Five minutes later the phone rings; it's the dealer saying the part I saw on the Verizon car was a tracking device? Verizon uses to keep tabs on all their cars? Does that sound right? Why not put it on the roof, then? Anybody see similar "tracking devices" around? Guy in WNY
Did the rubber plug and cap look like something for an electrical outlet? Because it very well could be they have had an after market plug in component installed and the dealer is clueless. I should think any kind of tracking mechanism wouldn't have to be seen outside the car at all. I witnessed a conversion of two Prii for our local SDG&E and their plug was installed in the rear bumper on the gas cap side, but I don't think it *has* to be there. The SDG&E conversion was Hymotion.
my work uses our company verizon phones to track our exact locations, its funny that verizon can't do the same with their employees Chicago made a stir last year buy buying a bunch of toyota highlander hybrids for either city officials or taxis (I forgot which) despite the fact that Ford has a factory in illinois i'm finding that more & more cities and companies are buying hybrids, good for them
