Source: Electronic vehicles and auto manufacturing jobs - Business Insider He pointed out that electric motors and drive trains consist of fewer components and that their production requires fewer workers than the production of vehicles with combustion engines. There are dumb reasons and then ones that remind us that 'those who the Gods would destroy, they first make insane.' Yes, he is right because it helps to explain how Tesla was able to build cars and become a success. Tesla does not have to build out the huge infrastructure needed for an engine. Note, I don't have EV envy because over the Labor Day weekend, my wife, her dogs, and I drove 1,400 miles round trip between Huntsville, AL and Stillwater, OK. There is no practical, cross-country EV charging infrastructure in between. Bob Wilson
there are plenty of inefficient ways to create jobs, but even the dumbest politicians understand that they make no sense. all of vdubs happy talk about ev's aside, they won't go down without a fight. and getting the labor union behind them might be a savvy way to do it.
Recall how German labor leaders and local politicians are on the board of VW and you understand the difficult position they are in. In addition to the profit today pressures, it is jobs and their protection that are represented and may inhibit long term thinking.
Just wait until the dealers get into it. The service appointments are going to drop like a rock, and that's quite a bit of profit for the dealer. No but there are jets. $350/pp for a 6 hour flight (1 connection) versus 10-12 hours in a car. We just got back from a weekend trip as we do most weekends. Airports are easy even today.
Wow . . . With this logic - veggie & fruit packing industries should have never automated. We went from this; To a room full of machinery, doing the same thing - not a single flu virus getting passed onto your tatters & oranges. But heck, you want to create jobs? With that logic - get rid of all the parking lot sweeping machines - hire a couple hundred folks with brooms! This is the logic they have in Oregon with hiring people to pump your gas. I'd rather the gas pumper folks use their time more wisely ... do something usefull ... head in to the 7-11 mini mart & fetch me a large black coffee. Where's the pity party for the poor slobs shoeing horses & making saddles & stage coaches that lost their jobs when cars came along. German politicians ... .
i have no problem with vdub moving all their production back to germany to create more jobs when they go all bev's. i suppose all the american workers who will lose their jobs will be dead by then.
