Hi All, I'm new to Priuschat. I have a 2001 Prius and will be getting a new 2006 in the next few weeks. My 2001 is going strong and my wife wants it. So that gives me the 2006 with all the bells and whistles. A nice Driftwood pearl without leather. I’ve been perusing around this site for about a month now. I see that the 2004-2006 now has a maintenance light at 5k? The 2001 did not. I usually change my oil on my own at about 6,500. I put on 110 miles a day to and from work and in the summer I get between 50 and 53 mpg with my 2001. I expect to be getting the same if not better mpg with the 2006.

Welcome to PriusChat! Did you buy the '01 new? Has it needed repairs? Yes, if you've gotten 50 with the '01, you should get about 3-5 MPG more with the '06. I also had an '01 and an '02, and actually liked the dash better on those than on my '04 and '06. I also liked the spaceshippy little shifter. I'm from Utica/Syracuse, BTW.
