Took Prime into a busy line at the car wash after a brutal salt/calcium road rally where the salt trucks were laying salt/calcium down on the roads like there is no tomorrow...anyway cars are bumper to bumper in the car wash line...so we pull up to the main entrance and put car in neutral as instructed...car moves along in the roller track as prescribed, now... we are moving in neutral, by rollers, moving the tires, and the guy ahead of me is only a few feet ahead, moving foward...my sensors are beeping like crazy, as expected, then the red brake now comes on and brakes the car, causing the track to quit and shut down the car wash line...the attendant says stop braking, and i say im NOT braking the car is because its too close to the guy ahead of me...Clueless attendant ..was deer in headline syndrome...so a word to wise...when entering a busy car wash line...back off before you enter to widen the gap...or you may risk the line shutting down as the prime thinks you are going to hit someone...
The system can be turned OFF in the Settings menu...but it has to be turned back ON manually as well. It does not automatically reset.
Use the car wash style where the car doesn't move: the washing apparatus passes along the car. Better, if possible: go with @huskers tip, wash it yourself. Come to think of it, DIY washing your car in Vancouver city (we're still ok, in suburb of Coquitlam) may be illegal. I'm having a hard time verifying that, with Google though. FWIW, I put about one tablespoon of (Toyota) car wash liquid concentrate in the wash pail, and 90 percent plus of that pail content comes back in the house after, is dumped in the sanitary sewer, not down the storm drain. OTOH, I was walking the dog up the cul-de-sac, and one of our neighbours had his car completely disappeared in foam, applied with some sort of power washer. And then there's the jokers who spray their engine bays with hydrocarbon solvents, hose it all down to the storm drains.
I need to wait until the roads are a little better before washing mine. It'd just be a waste of money and time at the moment.
I go to Pauls Auto wash here in Clawson Mi I got the unlimited Fire and ICE car wash option for $19.99/mo. FWIW I have never had an issue with my cars past and present (2012, 2015 and 2017 prius's) going through the car wash.
please show me where, I'm not disputing your claim, I'm just too lazy to look it up myself. https://www.toyota.com/t3Portal/document/om-s/OM47A88U/pdf/OM47A88U.pdf
Sorry, here's what I was thinking of. I do not own a Prime. The manual specifically warns of the OPs issue though. Under the headind
went to my car wash place just now and surprise surprise!!!!!!!!!! no issues with my car or the car wash, go figure
Reading some comments here about automatic car wash and PRIME, I was hesitant to take my car go through the wash. But with accumulating ice and snow in dead cat space and all the salts on the body in continuous subzero temp, I decided to venture into the WASHER! Well, it did not cause any problem. No beeping, no warning, no braking, just a clean car at the end of tunnel.
Interesting note about turning off the automatic windshield wipers before going thru the car wash. I wouldn't have thought of that. Think I will just wash it by hand and use the free coupon my dealer gives me for my pickup.
Those saying you haven't had an issue, is this because this would only happen on the Advanced model or why would it affect some and not others?
