Hey folks, Thought I'd spread the word about this. I got a call from my husband at the dealer today, he said they had a Prius in the shop that had burnt out a brake backup power supply because they had a liquid in the back that spilled all over. He wanted me to a) immediately remove any liquid from the back of my Prius (I didn't have any back there) and B) spread the word. No word on whether this will be covered by the warranty- but at the very least the they are speculating there will be some campaign to put some seal over that power supply. Any Prius Techs out there seen this happen before?
A follow-up: The part cost nearly $500 to replace. Still no word on warranty. But knowing Toyota it will be taken care of...
hmm.. sounds like it spilled in the back right hand side? i think all the little controlers are over there. too bad about the problem. hope warranty covers it.
Well... now we'll be reading all about this in some "Car Review" website or article, soon. "Besides having a battery that needs to be replaced every three years at a cost of $5,000, the Prius can blow its delicate electronics if liquid is spilled in the car." Yup... I can almost see it on Edmunds now.
Well, we're talking about a gallon of stuff here, not just a glass of water... And like I said Toyota will probably come up with some fix for it. It's like the transmission trouble- very rare but occasionally happens. And car reviewers love that stuff.
