I did a snow tire swap and I thought I should share weight of rim and tire combos. OEM 17" + Michelin HX Pilot MXM4 = 44 lbs 15" Gen II 6-spoke alloy + Nokian Hakkapellita 5 = 35 lbs Man, those 17" are porcine, but gorgeous!!!! I save 9lbs of rolling weight per wheel. The MPG savings should offset some of the imminent cold weather. Hope it helps.
The 17" may be porcine, but many lighter 17-19" rims don't fare much better (or at all) due to them being less aerodynamic than OEM 17". With a hit of only ~1.8 mpg, I'd say that one's driving habit is a much bigger factor. The hit is equivalent to not pulse and gliding maybe less than a quarter of a tank.
Thanks for sharing the weight! Would be nice to grab the rim only weight as each tyre model have different weights.
Right, the difference is rolling resistance and maybe aerodynamics. The effects of wheel weight on fuel economy are generally greatly exaggerated.
