I bought a 2002 Prius 6 months ago and I haven't had any problems since a week ago. I had the red triangle without any code coming from the motor or the battery. The car is still working fine, with no problem at all but the red triangle. I live in south Texas and the latest days have been quite wet. The car has 121000 miles. When I put Dr Prius I can see the 19 modules, the voltage difference is quite low (.1 to .16 most of the time), but the weird thing is that the individual voltage is near 8 V and the total voltage is 302 V, while the values for this car should be 7.2 V and 273.6 V respectively. Of course, the HV battery is the same that the car has had for the last 6 months without any red triangle. So, what could be the problem here? What other check can I do to know where the red triangle comes from? Thank you. Thank you.
You see 19 blocks, not modules. Blocks 1-19. Each block is 2 modules in series. 38 modules total. 7.2 volts is the NOMINAL voltage for one module, which is really just the typical plateau voltage for a 6 cell NiMH battery. Kind of like how 12v is nominal for a 12v lead acid battery, but actual fully charged voltage is more like 12.6+ volts. When a 6 cell NiMH is fully charged, it's 8+ volts. 302v/38 modules = 7.95 volts per module average.
