Hello lads, I currently own a 2006 prius which has done about 100k km. I've been hearing knocking and rattling sounds coming from the left tire whenever I go over a rough patch of road or even a speed bump, between slow to moderate speeds. It's currently bearable, but it gets irritating at times and it seems to be getting louder. =/ Anyone with any idea what is the cause of these noise and how I can rectify it? I wish to get rid of it. =/ Thanks! =D
Hey thanks for your response. Could it be caused by other factors like a warn steering bush or the likes?
Given your car has logged 100K km I would say that bad suspension struts is the most likely problem. Take a look at them, and if you see substantial oil leakage then you'll know that they need to be replaced. (OTOH, lack of oil leakage does not prove the struts are good.) It is certainly possible that some other loose component is causing the problem, so you'll need to inspect the suspension to see if you find any problems. Raise up the left front wheel 3-4 inches above the ground, then use a long pry bar to move the front wheel up and down and see if you can locate the source of the noise.
Sounds very similair to the sounds that were coming from my car when I hit the pothole. http://priuschat.com/forums/gen-ii-...ng/79194-suspension-knocking-hit-pothole.html The sound on my 2005 wasnt constant but when I went over speed bumps it knocked. I never changed any part on the car but it was solved after I took the suspension apart. Perhaps twisted spring that was solved when I took it apart and put it back together.
WOW thanks guys. u've been all very spontenous in ur responses. I really appreciate that. i'll go do the necessary and hope it goes away! Thank you!
