Cleaned the MAF sensor last night on my 2015 168k. Noticed something new. Took out the air filter removed the upper portion of the housing to easily remove the MAF. The upper portion of the case that holds the MAF that clips to the airbox has a webbing inside of it. Feels like plastic. There are many layers. Never seen a car that has had this. I guess it there to block some thing that air filter would not catch? Anyone seen this before? I would think this would limit air getting into the engine and almost want to cut it out. Probably not a good move. Anyone have any ideas?
If you are referring to the white filter on the underside of the air box top it is there to trap vapors after the engine has shut off. It's designed to be a permanent part of the vehicle's emission controls.
