Hello all. I am new to the forum. This looks like a great place to exchange information. I am an electrical engineer and do some of my own automobile and motorcycle maintenance and rebuilds. I have a chance to buy a 2005 Ford Escape Hybrid for about $12k. I know how to evaluate normal gas or diesel vehicles, but what "special problems" do I need to look for on this 2005 Ford? It has 85,ooo miles and is out of warranty. I can do my own mechanic work. Are there any special expensive parts that require periodic replacement, like batteries or specialized electric motors? My wife wants a hybrid to replace her Dodge mini van that gets her 22 mpg. Our teenage son would then drive the old minivan. Will the 2005 Ford actually give 35 or so mpg? Thanks, Steve
