I am wondering as Gen IV approaches two+ years in market, anyone seen running Gen IV under $8K? Regardless mileages and in running condition but not salvaged. Prius needs to get cheaper to compete with Kia/Hyundai...
in ny/nj you get 4k rebate, another couple grande discount, then the $4,500. fed tax credit, and any state available.
He's talking about Gen 4, not Prime. Also, the Gen 4s aren't as cheap on the used car market because the incentives aren't as large as Hyundai. The Gen 4 Prius is larger than the Ioniq (even though on paper, some of the dimensions are the same. Weird). The Ioniq is a compact car. Also, the Gen 4 (2017 and newer) have TSS-P as standard equipment to somewhat offset the higher price. Those features are only available on the Ioniq Limited. But as bisco said, you can get a Prius Prime new for cheaper than a Gen 4 Prius or Ioniq once you factor in dealer/local incentives, the $4,500 tax credit and any state credit where applicable.
It's crazy isn't it? Looks like Prius still has hype attached to it. Gen IV looks like robotic car and probably still hip with some folks. I looked at Ioniq in used market but not seeing anything under $19K. Looks like the overall used car market is hot...
