Maybe. Stock wheels are 15x5 et40, so your proposed wheel ends up putting about 1.4" more width inboard. There may not be enough strut clearance with that big a change. I've test-fit a 7" wide et37 and there was strut clearance, however I didn't measure how much beyond "a finger width". I'm sure you already know about the negatives of significantly increasing your unsprung mass, changing scrub radius, and all that jazz.
I am curious if a 17 inch wheel might work too. I bought 15x7 40 wheels and they are fine. I have the stock 175x65 Goodyears on these wheels. If I can wear them out I plan to put a much larger tire on this wheel. Dan
Good to know 7" wide et40 fit fine. FYI, the wheel diameter you choose isn't terribly relevant, assuming they clear the suspension/brakes, and you can find a tire size that is rational [i.e. about 24" diameter]. As such, you can rock an 18" wheel with 215/35-18 if you please. What dictates the fitment [strut clearance and fender flushness] is mostly a function of wheel width and offset. Let's just make it easy: Any wheel diameter + 7" width + between 37 and 40mm positive offset +205 wide tire or less = success. Examples: 205/55-15 on a 15x7 et40 = excellent 205/50-16 on a 16x7 et40 = excellent 205/45-17 on a 17x7 et40 = excellent Don't want to totally kill your fuel economy? Get a narrower tire. 185/60-15 ,195/60-15, 185/55-16, 195/50-16, and 195/45-17 will all work. Want to own it at the Autocross? 215/45-16, 215/40-17, 215/35-18 will work great but may run into rubbing when lowered.
